How to Measure

HOW TO MEASURE

Before You Start

  • Use a new or gently used measuring tape
  • Check accuracy by comparing it to a hard ruler (measuring tapes can stretch or warp over time)
  • Wear form-fitting clothing (leotard or tight dancewear)
  • Stand naturally upright — don’t suck in or puff out
  • Keep the tape snug, not tight
  • Measure in inches

Key Measurements

Bust / Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level across the back.

Ribs
Measure 2-3 inches under the chest, keeping the tape level across the back.

Waist
Measure at the natural waistline (the narrowest part of the torso).

Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat.

Pro Tips

  • Always measure twice for accuracy
  • Keep the tape flat against the body — no twisting
  • Write measurements down immediately
  • Do not add "room for growth"
